Platinum Dunes......

With all the recent buzz concerning Platinum Dunes' remake of the highly decorated 1982 slasher pic Friday the 13th, I think that it is only fitting to have my first post talk about re-make kings Platinum Dunes as a company..... Being a huge horror fan myself, I am rather intirgued by their past and upcoming producing slate -- as I feel it serves fans of the genre well.

Platinum Dunes, formed in 2001 by director Michael Bay, is a company dedicated to re-inventing horror classics. With titles such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Amityville Horror already under their belt -- along with the Friday the 13th piece premiering on Friday, the team, which is run by Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, and Bay has really been at it.

Although many fans are quick to admonish the trio for destorying their childhood memories coupling with great names such as Cunningham, Hitchcock, Carpenter and more... the fellas at Dunes are diligent in making sure they serve their audiences well.

Personally... I think what they are doing is great. They are creating a way for fans of the horror genre to relive films that have become rather outdated. Bringing iconic characters such as Leatherface, Jason Voorhees, and John Ryder beack to the big screen in front of audiences is very commendable and a tough task. Though the Dunes' boys are constantly receving backlash for their efforts, they remain devoted enough to continue their trek of horror re-makes.

I have always wanted to produce low-budget horror films -- and I think Platinum Dunes is a great company to aspire to be involved with one day.
